My Passion
What a boring title, right? But hopefully this post won’t be boring.
Okay. Passion, huh? First, let’s find the definition of that.
pas·sionNoun/ˈpaSHən/ :
2. A state or outburst of such emotion
That’s the definition of passion, according to Merriam Webster. So, the one thing in my life that fits this definition? I guess it’d have to be K-Pop, most notably Super Junior.
Before you go off and label me as a shallow person, dumb fangirl, or no-brain idiot, let me tell you something first. No one can really define my passion for Super Junior. Go on, I dare you to search it online, but no one will be able to tell how much Super Junior means to me.
Honestly? Their songs were the first to make me cry into my pillow until two A.M. in the morning. They were the first to make me laugh out loud and almost cry just by watching their variety shows. They were the first to make me shiver in anticipation of what they would do next for their newest single or MV. Super Junior was the first to make me feel upset and feel pain from their hardships, the first to remind me of how they worked so hard so I had no right to feel bad about my own life, the first ones to make me love them for real. The first music group to ever do any of those.
Now let me add, that even though I love them, it’s not in a romantic way. I know that it’d be impossible for me to contact them, to even get to know them personally. I’m not an idiot. I also know that what they show on the camera may not be their real selves, and that they could be hiding something from their fans. I also know that they won’t last forever, and sooner or later, they will disband. I am absolutely not a fool. But even with all these facts under my belt and these realizations, still, I can say very proudly that they mean so much more to me than the world will ever know.
I can tell you when the debuted without going of Wikipedia. November 6, 2005. I can tell you when Kyuhyun, Leeteuk, Shindong, and Eunhyuk got into a near fatal car accident. May 6, 2007. I can name all their albums and singles in order. Twins, U, Don’t Don, Sorry Sorry, It’s You, Bonamana, Mr. Simple. I can name all the members and their English names. And I’m not even considered a hardcore fan.
See, it’s my belief that even if you don’t like Super Junior, have never heard of them, have heard of them and think they’re gay and/or suck, you should respect them. They’ve been the kings of K-pop and led the Hallyu Wave for a long time now, and they’ve done things that you can’t even hope to do. Granted, not everyone has talent in singing and dancing, but can you have been debuted for seven years through many scandals, hardships, pain, etc, and still be strong and smile? You think their dances are easy and you can copy them down to a T in two days? Think again, because I really doubt it. Respect their accomplishments, and then just go own with your own life. You don’t need to pay attention to this post. Don’t even remember it if you don’t want to. But at least, don’t judge.
So, to sum up that really long post, Super Junior is my passion. Everything about them, from their voices to their humor to their laughter to their tears to their looks to their dance to their movements to their agony…all of it is my passion. Fifteen is a number that is unable to be erased from my mind. Thirteen is too. From leader Leeteuk to youngest Kyuhyun, they’re all Super Junior. They’re all my passion.
And that, my dear friends, is my passion.
